A junior at Grace Brethren Schools and DewCoach member for 14 months, Pierson Ohl is a name you will want to remember. Baseball, training, academics and family are four words that describe him. A two-year starter, devoted to improvement with a 3.9 gpa and 6 siblings are details that help you know him better. Oh and by the way, an extraordinarily polite and kind young man.
Interview on January 12:
Pierson, its early in 2017 but what’s the biggest thing that’s happened for you so far?
I was picked up to play in the Under Armour All American Preseason Tournament in Mesa Arizona on the weekend of January 13th through the 15th.
How did that come about?
In the off season our coach at Grace Brethren, Barry Tolli, entered our team into a Baseball Factory tournament during the fall and Baseball Factory has scouts at every game.
When you say scouts, what do you mean?
Baseball Factory is a nationwide company and they have scouts of all types that attend major events. That includes college and pro scouts. At the event in Mesa, all major-league teams will have scouts there.
Are you excited about it?
I’m stoked!
You’ve been a member at DewCoach for over a year now. You’ve been training and working hard while being an integral part of the whole operation so how has that gone for you?
It’s been amazing since I started in November 2015. The grind is unreal. If you are an athlete looking to succeed I’d recommend it 100%. It’s changed my life dramatically. I went from running an 8 flat 60 (baseball sprint 1st to 3rd) down to a 6.9 to 7 flat. The speed is dramatically increased and the power is increasing every day, every time I come here I learn something new, get stronger and I love it.
So you’ve been actually able to see the result of your work at Dewcoach on the field?
Oh clearly! I’m head and shoulders above some of the guys on my team and they realize that and they’ve started attending DewCoach and are stepping up their game as well.
That is a great testimony Pierson. I checked your stats for your freshman and sophomore years and that is a great testimony to your work ethic.
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Batting Average .262 up to .377
On Base Percentage .377 up to .469
Hits 17 up to 30
Runs Scored 19 up to 31
Well Pierson, heading into your junior season, you are already on national all star teams, have scouts looking at you and it looks pretty good for your future huh?
I’m hopin so.
That big smile on your face is a great sign, thank you and Godspeed!
January 14th Update: After the first day of competition in the Under Armour tournament, Pierson was rankned in the top velocity chart at 85 mph pitching. He faced 15 batters and recorded 11 strike outs while giving up only 1 hit. Scouts showed interest with one indicating that ‘with an increase in speed, I can see you getting paid one day.”
Veterans Day
I’ve been asked my entire adult life if I was a United States Marine. The answer is no as that wasn’t the course of action I chose coming out of college. It is a regret as everything I believe is demonstrated by the Corp. Today I have thought about what I have in common, in fact what my family and business has in common with not only the Marines but all of the military service branches as well as the peace keepers, firefighters and medical teams.
Here is what it is. My family and DewCoach have a tremendous desire, as do all the afore mentioned, to serve others. We don’t care what race, gender, age, sexual orientation, current circumstances of life, number of abortions, who you voted for, or where you born. We love first, served second and judge not. Just like the active troops, veterans and first responders. If you need help, we give it. If you want to change and grow, we come alongside and lead, demonstrate and teach.
The country is in some degree of turmoil. We are not. Just like the trained military, medical and peacekeepers, we have trained ourselves to be ready to serve in times of turmoil. We don’t recoil at events, we embrace chaos, challenge and seek to actively be a part of people’s lives that need and want our help.
You can find us easily online, at our home, at our version of a ‘ranch’ called DewCoach where you will be accepted, loved and I guarantee changed. We will give you everything we have including tough love to move you to another place, the place you truly seek deep in your heart.
No, I wasn’t blessed to be a Marine but I’ve known many and they humble me with their attitude and effort. I seek to honor them with my attitude and effort and in so doing see every human being as one race, ‘the human race‘ and I seek to serve them.
Have a great Veterans Day and I encourage you to serve another today!
Terry Gourley aka DewCoach
Man says to (spouse, friend, buddy whoever):
“I’m going to the gym.” (internally, please give me a reason not to)
OR “I’m going to go workout.” (internally, it’s the right thing to do)
OR “Hey, I’m going to work out!” (Internally, hope it’s a good one even though I’m not sure what to do)
OR “Hey, I’m can’t wait to workout, you’ve got to go with me, it’s my favorite part of the day.” (Internally, this will kick my butt again but I feel like I used to in high school and its fun too)
Question: How do you get your inner voice to get your actual voice to say it in the right voice? Here are 3 reasons how you can get it there.
• Have a purpose, plan and goal. Know why you are working out, what you are going to do and a goal to meet.
• Workout with people that are going to push you and help you accomplish the three phases of step 1.
• Workout at a place that encourages those three goals by adding one key component; Competition!
DewCoach is a that place. It’s not just a workout, it is a complete attitude adjustment. Oh it’s a workout, you will develop your body into its best version of itself in your life. I mean in every way and for every purpose. Internally, Externally, Attitudinally, Emotionally, and even Spiritually. You can’t imagine until you’ve done it what adding 30 minutes of Attack Basketball inside a Sportsfusion inflatable will do for your heart and head. And that’s just the beginning. The DewCoach training protocol employs a wide range of styles to hit every modality.
Interval, Circuit, Body Building, Power Lifting, Body-weight and more are used to meet the objectives of strength, balance, power, agility and mobility which enable you to reach your goals of more muscle, less body fat, look better in and out of your clothes.
Ask yourself this question, “Is my workout boring and by boring I mean dull, monotonous, stale, tame, tedious, unimaginative, uninspiring, discouraging and just plain ordinary.”
A workout at DewCoach is amazing, awesome, energizing, exciting, exhilarating, inspiring, invigorating, stimulating, absorbing and engaging.

Why do the workouts need to be varied so much?
Our mind controls what our body does and our body loves ‘normal’. Whether you have run, worked a treadmill, climbed a Stairmaster or even lifted weights in the past, your body adapted to what you did. Most people design and execute their own workouts or buy a DVD or two with workouts on them. When you choose the workout you are going to do ahead of time, your body adjusts and prepares itself in advance which reduces the effectiveness of your effort. Simply put, if you don’t know what is coming, your body is already beginning to benefit before you ever start! Part two of the reason is wide variety of workouts prevent boredom.
When you don’t know what is coming and you are doing exercises that are new or with different implements, the effort is high and your mind is active. This combination increases results. Part three is that varied workouts with a wide array of implements, such as kettle bells, sandbags, various ropes, dumbbells, suspension systems, free weights, sledge hammers and many more create muscle confusion and metabolic disturbance when properly programmed. All of this variance creates a greater impact in the creation of muscle, burning of fat and mental focus.
So, variability is key for your mind and body while providing the most efficient method for achieving your expected outcome.
